The first compiler was written by Grace Hopper, in 1952, for the A-0 System language. C was therefore useful for many applications that had formerly been coded in assembly language, B preceded C but most probably PDP-7 assembler language was the choosed to write the first C compiler which is developed by Dennis Ritchie, one of the first C compilers developed by Stephen Johnson was writing PCC(Portable C Compiler) in C. It is even possible to compile a C compiler with itself. This process, which is called bootstrapping.
